Remembering Those Who Came Before

The Jefferson College Historical Society is dedicated to remembering all those citizens who lived, died, and added to the fabric of the local communities.

Clicking the images below will direct you to the FindAGrave.com website for that particular cemetery.  FindAGrave is a volunteer website that allows family and interested parties to create memorials of those who have passed.  It is a great use when doing genealogical studies in the United States.

Local Cemeteries

Chartiers Hill Church

The burial ground immediately behind the Chartiers Hill Church at the intersection of Rts. 19 & 519.  Began operation in 1775 and continues to operate today.

Covenanter

Small burial ground on Brigich Road that was the  Miller Run Reformed Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Morganza

This small burying ground in Southpointe remembers some of the residents of Pennsylvania Training School who passed during their stay at Morganza.

Oak Spring

Polish National

Beginning operation in the 1770s as the burial yard for the members of the Chartiers Association congregation.  Currently much of the 100 acres are available for future interments.

Nestled between Payne Place and the Chartiers Creek this burial ground was utilized by many of the area's citizens of color for their final resting place

This very small and little known cemetery has only a few known burials.  It is hidden in the woods behind the McClelland schoolhouse (Anthou Legal Services office).  

Sacred Heart

Saint Michael's

Located near the top of Ridge Avenue, just north of Canonsburg.  This cemetery includes many of the members of the Polish National Catholic Church.

A large wrought iron gate marks the entrance to this burial ground on Fourth Street.  It has been the final resting place for many of the parishioners of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church since 1915.

Saint Patrick Cemetery

Operating since October of 1903 with a chapel that was constructed in 1976 for on site services.  

Speer Spring

Speer Spring cemetery was open to provide burial plots to the locals from 1832 until 1967.  It is currently being maintained by the members of the Canonsburg U. P. Church.

Located along Route 19 in North Strabane on the 155 acre Woodruff farm.
